15 Ways to use a Stitch Marker

Stitch markers are useful! In case you do not believe me, I can show you why!

Granted, I didn't have a single stitch marker in the house until 2017. I didn't even know what they were good for. Today, however, I can't live without them and that's why I have compiled 15 good reasons why you can/should use stitch markers. Believe me, they come in pretty handy, those little thingies!

1. Mark the right or wrong side of your knitting/crochet.

2. Mark the beginning of a round, especially when working „in the round“ or in spirals (eg amigurumi).

3. Mark the change of stitch patterns or of colours.

4. Mark different parts of a garment (eg when making a yoke, it will help you define front, back and sleeves).

5. Indicate in- and/or decreases.

6. Use when counting stitches (eg put a stitch marker in every 10, 20 or 50 stitches).

7. Use as reference point, eg to keep track of how many rows you knit/crochet in one hour (progress keeper).

8. Mark pattern repeats.

9. Secure a dropped stitch until you can fix it (knitting).

10. Secure the last loop of your crochet to prevent unravelling.

11. Hold your work together when joining.

12. Mark the centre of a panel or section.

13. Remember your hook size (using a numbered stitch marker or hook size stitch marker).

14. Mark the location of a cable or other special stitches.

15. Because stitch markers are pretty...

BTW: Stitch markers are equally pretty and useful little gifts for knitters and/or crocheters! And: All the stitch markers shown in this blog post can be found in the Atelier Marie-Lucienne Etsy-Shop, just have a look and treat yourself to one (or two) of the pretty stitch markers, either made of wood or metal......
